Part Time Bookseller 

Book-ish is an award-winning independent bookshop based in the Brecon Beacons in Mid Wales. As a hub of the community for over 14 years, we are lucky to have a very engaged and passionate customer base who love what we do,

​We are looking for a part time bookseller (ideally with bookselling experience and a people-centred personality) to become part of the Book-ish team.

This is a part time role, with some regular hours with additional irregular hours to allow for holiday and event cover which could on occasion lead to some full time weeks so flexibility is key – we are able to be flexible too so this position may suit somebody who is in part time education.

This is an exciting opportunity for people with a love of books and people, a vibrant personality, an eye for detail and a sense of creativity to join the next chapter of the Book-ish story. Hours are available in both Crickhowell and Abergavenny stores.

Duties

  • Serving customers and recommending books.
  • Daily bookshop administration including:
    • Booking in new stock
    • Putting new orders onto the system
    • Working at the till
    • Organising shelves and displays
    • Answering customer enquiries in person and by phone.
    • Picking and wrapping online customer orders
    • Keeping up to date with current titles and recommending books to customers.
  • Helping to host and promote regular events, book clubs and book launches both in store and at external events including festivals.
  • Collaborating on in store and social media promotions
  • Creating social media content

​Essential skills

  • Retail experience, ideally bookselling.
  • An enthusiastic, personable, approachable, positive, friendly, helpful and social personality.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Creativity in considering new and exciting ways to sell books.
  • Confident social media skills.
  • Clean driving license and access to a vehicle

Pay

From £11.44 ph based on a minimum contract of 16 hours per week

Location

Will be required to work in our shops in Abergavenny and Crickhowell; also event venues, which may require travel.
