We’ve far too much on for me to go sleeping through a whole month!
International Literacy Day – 8th September
As our younger readers go back to school, this year’s International Literacy Day will be celebrated worldwide under the theme, “Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces” – because schools, libraries and bookshops have an important role to play in building resilience, and ensuring quality, equitable, and inclusive education for all.
Our schools newsletter is right here if you want ideas for shaking up the status quo at school or in the library – and if you’re more of a social media type, we have a dedicated Twitter just for our teachers and learners @bookishschools.
Roald Dahl Day – 13th September
We invite childebeests all around the world and back again to celebrate the life and times and, above all, the books of my first ever favourite author! Roald Dahl, born in Llantraff (despite his very Norwegian name) wrote… oh, blimey. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Matilda. The BFG. Fantastic Mr. Fox. James and the Giant Peach. And those are just the ones that have been filmed (that I can remember having been filmed, which might not be the same thing)!
Abergavenny Food Festival
Join us – almost all of us – as the food world descends on Abergavenny on the 17th and 18th of September! We’ll be in our usual spot in the Market Hall, and you’ll find Book-ish booksellers at the Castle, the Dome, the Angel and the Library throughout the weekend.
If you just can’t wait ’til then, take a look through our Food and Drink catalogue below…
Events
We also have some fantastic author events coming up this month – Clare Mackintosh introduces her new thriller The Last Party on the 7th, Ruth Jones returns with Love Untold on the 28th (the evening’s sold out, but we have plenty of tickets for an afternoon at the Manor!), and on the 29th we welcome Matt Brown and Eloise Williams, editors of The Mab, for an earlier evening family-front event.
So, as you can see, there’s a lot going on. An awful lot.
I suppose… oh, I’ve got time for a nap in the Snug. Five minutes won’t hurt anyone. Just resting my eyes. Promise.
See you next month!
Jon
